I am in Maui for the new year!. Mike loves it when I do stuff like this. The internet allows for such flexibility!
 Frosty Car! |
I left the house this AM with frost on my car, the lawn, and my house. It was very chilly back home in San Bernardino County. The temp was right at freezing. We left the house, got on the freeway (very quiet on Xmas morning) and made our way to the airport. Parking was rough. It took 40 minutes to find a place. Finally on a shuttle to the terminal. The rest was normal at LAX.
We got on our flight, Maui bound. A crazy thing happened. Everyone on the plane was also going to Maui! Imagine that. :-) Four and a half hours later we landed in Maui. Get the rental jeep, drive over to Wailea and get out room. Heck we had time to go swimming before dinner!
 Large male Maui Anolis |
At the pool we used the water slides, played, relaxed... until... then I found it. A green anole. Anolis carolinensis ssp. I remember reading that the Hawaiian green anoles were a Cuban ssp and not a USA subspecies. The animal does have a dark eyepatch and very different dark markings than we are all used to seeing in green Anolis carolinensis from the states. Very large animal. Probably 20% bigger than 'normals'. If anyone can help ID this specimen to subspecies email us and we'll correct the site. Thanks!
Another shot of the same male. |
Well that is it for now. If I get images of other animals I will post. Happy New year to everyone. Call Mike (909)447-5103 and tell him you saw this post this post!
