About California Pet Trade Legislative Action List:

This list exists for the purpose of letting those concerned with the California pet industry know about developments on the legislative front. When new bills are introduced to the state legislators we will be broadcasting an alert to everyone on this list in an effort to develop a "grass roots effort". An effort from the ground up to put pressure on lawmakers to enact reasonable laws. The list is broadcast only. If you have information you'd like to share with the listmembers email the listowner.

HOT NEWS:

August 8, 2006 - AB 2862 is back in committee. AB 2862 is back rearing it's ugly head. The California State Senate "Business and Professions" committee is hearing this bill again on Thursday August 10th. PIJAC has published a "call to action" on this bill. They are asking all concerned bodies attend the meeting. I (Scott Solar) will be there and hope to see many of you too! Here is a link to PIJAC's call to action.

March 6, 2006 - There is a bill in the California Assembly called AB 2862. In its present form it will dramatically change the way pets are sold in California. Click here to see the text of the bill.

There are many noted problems. Animals must be weaned for two weeks prior to sale. This hurts the hand fed bird market and baby snakes (no food!). The bill requires 1/4 of a square foot per mouse. Reptile stores will need hundreds of square feet to house their mice! The licenced snake breeder law in California is killed. These are mostly reptile related and problems with other segments are not yet addressed. This list is incomplete. If you find more issues please send them to Calzoo at aol.com or Scott at amazonreptile.com
